Story

The history of the house

Laudenbach is one of the oldest communities in the region.

The current holiday home was built in 1806 by the Dürr shepherd family, who moved from the countryside to the village. The two-story house had a baking oven and a barn with a stable. When inflation set in, the two sisters of the Dürr family sold the property to the Gundling family in 1910. This large and extensive family lived in the house for over 100 years, as did three other displaced families after the Second World War. Around 1960, the approximately 14-hectare vineyard farm housed two horses, about six dairy cows, pigs, geese, and chickens. When the last owner died, the fields, meadows, and vineyards were sold.

The process

The entire property was still in its original condition until its purchase in 2023.

Because our family regularly vacationed as a large group with friends, the dream of having our own holiday home for large groups had been with us for a while. In the fall of 2023, we visited the farmhouse in its original condition for the first time and were impressed by the old structures and buildings. The idea was to build a holiday home out of it, but to demolish or modify as little as possible. It should still be clearly recognizable that this was once a farmhouse with a stable and barn. The plan was in place, ideas were developed, and finally, we signed the purchase contract. The construction work shouldn't take too long, so we started renovating in xx.

Over time, the project turned out to be more complex than expected, so half the family toiled on our construction site every Saturday. We spent many nerve-wracking, painful, and exhausting months, but we're all the more proud of the final result.

In June 2025 we laid the last stone and are now opening the doors of the Traubentraum.

A brief note on the origin of the name: Initially, this provisional name was translated from English as "Grape Dream" by Gudrun's brother, an architect from Chicago. However, we got used to it and ultimately couldn't think of a better idea. So the name stuck, and with the vines at the barn, it serves its purpose.

This is how the Traubentraum holiday home was created!
